Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Fishing Info

Find answers to common questions about our full day offshore fishing charters from Pirate’s Cove Marina, covering everything from seasonal species to trip preparation for your next Oregon Inlet adventure.

What is included in a Carly A Sportfishing charter in Oregon Inlet?

Your booking with Carly A Sportfishing is fully inclusive to ensure a seamless day on the water. We provide tournament-grade rods, reels, tackle, and all necessary lures and bait. Additionally, a full North Carolina fishing license is included for every angler in your group. You will also benefit from the expertise of Captain Jonathan Weiss and a professional mate dedicated to making your trip productive.

What is the best time of year to fish in Oregon Inlet?

Oregon Inlet offers exceptional year-round opportunities, though your target species will vary by season. Giant Bluefin Tuna are the focus in February and March, while April through June is prime for Yellowfin Tuna and Mahi Mahi. July and August offer great variety for the ice chest, and September is widely considered the best month for White Marlin fishing in the Outer Banks.

What should I bring on my Oregon Inlet sportfishing charter?

Guests only need to bring their preferred food and drinks (alcohol is allowed in moderation, no glass please), sunscreen (non-spray preferred), polarized sunglasses, and appropriate clothing for changing sea weather. Most importantly, bring a large cooler to leave in your vehicle for transporting your fresh catch home after the trip.

Where does Carly A Sportfishing depart from in Manteo?

We are conveniently docked at the world-famous Pirate’s Cove Marina in Manteo, NC. This location offers the quickest access to Oregon Inlet, meaning less time spent traveling through the sound and more time with your lines in the water at the Gulf Stream fishing hotspots.

Are fish cleaning and filleting services included?

While the mate will assist in handling and icing your catch during the trip, professional fish cleaning and filleting are handled by the dedicated staff at Pirate’s Cove Marina upon our return. They provide expert cleaning services for a standard fee per pound, ensuring your tuna, mahi, or wahoo is ready for the grill.

Is the Carly A Sportfishing boat family-friendly?

Absolutely. We take pride in offering family friendly offshore fishing in the Outer Banks. Our 57' Johnson Boatworks vessel features a spacious, air-conditioned cabin and a private enclosed toilet, making the long journey to the Gulf Stream comfortable for anglers of all ages and skill levels.

Do I need to bring my own fishing gear for this Pirate’s Cove offshore fishing charter?

No, you do not need to bring your own gear. The Carly A is outfitted with high-end heavy tackle, spinning, and trolling gear specifically chosen for Gulf Stream conditions. However, if you have a favorite lucky rod you’d like to use, you are welcome to bring it along—just let Captain Jon know ahead of time.

What happens if there is bad weather on the day of my trip?

Safety is our absolute priority. Captain Jonathan Weiss closely monitors NOAA wave forecasts and local conditions. If the weather is deemed unsafe for offshore travel, we will work with you to reschedule your trip to the next available date or provide a full refund of your deposit.

How many people can join a private offshore fishing charter in Oregon Inlet?

The Carly A is Coast Guard licensed to carry a maximum of six passengers. This limit ensures everyone has ample space on the deck and comfortable seating in the cabin during our journey to the deep sea fishing grounds of the Outer Banks.
